Al-Kabashi Inspects Sudanese Army Operations in Jebel Moya
Lieutenant General Shams El Din Kabashi, a prominent member of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, conducted an inspection of the Sudanese military forces stationed at the Jebel Moya axis. This visit follows the recent military success in reclaiming the area from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which occurred just two days prior to his visit.
During his address to the troops, Kabashi commended the high morale of the armed forces and acknowledged the significant contributions of popular resistance groups in the ongoing operations. Accompanied by Major General Haider Ali Al-Tarifi and Major General Sami Al-Tayeb, Kabashi emphasized the army's resolve to 'purify every inch of the homeland.' He expressed confidence that the rebellion is nearing resolution and reaffirmed the commitment of the Sudanese forces to eradicate the 'rebel terrorist militia.'
The military operations have also led to the opening of a vital national road connecting Sennar and Rabak, which is expected to boost commercial and strategic movement in the region. This development comes as the Sudanese army showcased captured weapons and vehicles from the RSF during recent confrontations in the Jebel Moya area. Among the seized items were Kornet missiles, military vehicles, and ammunition, highlighting the army's operational successes.
The Jebel Moya region holds strategic significance due to its location linking Sennar and White Nile states, making it a focal point for military engagements. Reports indicate that air support played a crucial role in neutralizing RSF artillery, aiding the Sudanese forces' advance. Despite the army's progress in regaining control of most of the region, cities like Singa and Al-Dinder remain under RSF control since June 2023.
The ongoing conflict in Sudan, which erupted in mid-April 2023, has resulted in a staggering death toll of approximately 21,000 and displaced around 10 million people, according to United Nations estimates. As heavy rains have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, international calls to end the conflict are intensifying, urging action to prevent a looming catastrophe that threatens millions with famine and death due to food shortages.
