Sudanese Army Regains Control of Jebel Moya Amid Ongoing Conflict
The Sudanese army has successfully retaken the Jebel Moya area in Sennar State after intense battles against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This strategic victory, announced on October 6, 2024, is crucial for reconnecting the besieged regions of White Nile and Kordofan, which had been cut off due to RSF control. The offensive was overseen by Lieutenant General Shams El Din Kabashi, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who has been actively involved in military operations across multiple fronts.
In recent months, the RSF had seized control of Jebel Moya, disrupting supply routes and gaining a foothold in Sennar State, including its capital, Singa. However, the tide has turned as the army has begun to push back, forcing RSF forces to retreat from civilian areas in Khartoum and surrounding regions. Reports indicate that the army has crossed significant bridges, marking a shift in the conflict dynamics.
Political Developments: Agar Withdraws from Peace Forum
In a related political development, Malik Agar, Vice President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, withdrew from the African Peace and Security Forum in South Africa after the arrival of a delegation from the RSF. Agar condemned the participation of what he termed a 'criminal militia,' highlighting the ongoing violence and the dire situation faced by the Sudanese people. His withdrawal underscores the deep divisions within Sudan's leadership amidst the ongoing conflict.
Additionally, a delegation from the African Peace and Security Council recently visited Sudan, expressing solidarity with the transitional government and calling for an immediate ceasefire. The visit aimed to address the humanitarian crisis and seek pathways to restore peace in the region. Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, emphasized the need for international awareness of the situation, which he describes as a new form of colonialism involving foreign mercenaries supporting the RSF.
