Student Arrested After Alleged Attack on Teacher in Hauts-de-Seine
A shocking incident unfolded at the Claude-Garamont high school in Colombes, Hauts-de-Seine, where a 16-year-old student was taken into custody on Wednesday for allegedly attacking her 63-year-old teacher during class. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when the teacher requested students to rearrange the classroom for an upcoming assessment. Reports indicate that the student attempted to leave the classroom, prompting the teacher to intervene. In a fit of anger, the student allegedly slapped the teacher and then attempted to strangle her.
The situation escalated quickly, with screams from the classroom alerting nearby staff and prompting a swift police response. Officers arrived on the scene and arrested the student, who was subsequently taken to the police station for questioning. The teacher, who reportedly works with students with disabilities, did not require hospitalization but has since filed a complaint against the student.
In response to this violent incident, teachers at the Claude-Garamont high school organized a strike on Thursday, expressing solidarity with their colleague and demanding a meeting with the director of national education services. The Nanterre prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the matter, categorizing it as 'intentional violence resulting in a total interruption of work of less than eight days and in a school establishment.'
