Heavy rains from Storm Boris have wreaked havoc in central and eastern Europe, leading to widespread flooding and tragic loss of life. At least six individuals have died, with the most severe impacts felt in countries such as Romania, Poland, and Austria. In Romania, four fatalities have been reported as floodwaters engulf homes and villages. Romanian Interior Minister Cătălin Predoiu stated that the country experienced its highest rainfall in a century, prompting urgent rescue operations involving over 200 personnel. Many residents have been forced to seek refuge on rooftops as military and emergency teams deploy boats and helicopters for rescue efforts.
The flooding crisis extends beyond Romania, affecting Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany. In Poland, Klodzko County has witnessed significant evacuations, with local authorities confirming the first drowning death. Meanwhile, in the Czech Republic, mandatory evacuations are in effect as authorities brace for further flooding.
