UN Warns of Imminent Food Crisis in Gaza
The United Nations has issued a grave warning regarding the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, stating that food, medicine, water, and fuel supplies are on the brink of complete cessation. Muhannad Hadi, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for the Palestinian Territories, highlighted that the ongoing blockade by Israel has prevented commercial imports for six weeks, exacerbating the dire conditions faced by approximately two million Palestinians.
Hadi emphasized that bakeries are shutting down due to a lack of essential supplies such as flour and fuel, leaving many without access to basic food items. The situation is further complicated by rampant looting of humanitarian aid convoys, which has reportedly increased during this period.
Escalating Violence and Aid Disruption
The UN has documented a troubling trend of violence against aid workers and facilities, with reports indicating that UN trucks have been looted 75 times this year alone, including 15 incidents since November 4. In a particularly alarming event, 98 trucks were looted in a single attack last Saturday. Hadi called for an urgent improvement in the security situation to facilitate the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, stressing that the ongoing hostilities are making it increasingly difficult to provide necessary support to those in need.
