Un P'tit Truc En Plus: A Blockbuster Against All Odds
Surprise success! One month after its release, the comedy Un p'tit truc en plus has exceeded 5.8 million admissions, according to CBO Box-Office figures. This remarkable achievement marks it as the biggest French hit in theaters since the health crisis. The film, which seeks to laugh with people with disabilities, continues to draw audiences with another 1.2 million tickets sold in its fifth week.
The distributor, Pan, expressed gratitude on Instagram, stating, “It’s just crazy! Thank you five million times, we love you.” Directed by comedian and actor Artus, the film has even outpaced the latest Asterix saga installment by attracting 4.6 million spectators in 2023, thereby cementing its place as the top French cinema success since Covid.
Other Box Office Stars: Furiosa and Planet of the Apes
Second place goes to Furiosa, the fifth installment of the Mad Max saga, which has accumulated over 600,000 admissions in its second week. Directed by George Miller, the film delves into the origins of Furiosa, a character first introduced in Mad Max: Fury Road. In third place is Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom, which has attracted over 2 million spectators since its release, with more than 235,000 admissions this week alone.
Blue and Company is close to hitting the million admissions mark, with over 135,000 spectators this week. The top five is rounded out by the new horror film Abigail, which garnered more than 80,000 admissions in its debut week.
The success of Un p'tit truc en plus, featuring amateur actors with disabilities alongside professionals, can be attributed to its unique premise. Clovis Cornillac and Artus portray a father-son duo who, in a bid to escape after a heist, find refuge in a summer camp for adults with disabilities. The comedic yet touching narrative has resonated strongly with audiences.
