UN Reports on Humanitarian Crisis in Northern Gaza
The humanitarian situation in northern Gaza has reached alarming levels, as confirmed by the acting UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Joyce Msuya. She described the ongoing conditions as "unspeakable horrors" resulting from the Israeli blockade and military actions. Msuya highlighted the forced displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians, stating that essential supplies are rapidly depleting, and hospitals are overwhelmed with patients. "People in Jabalia are trapped under the rubble, and rescue workers are being prevented from reaching them," she noted, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention.
Impact of Military Actions on Healthcare Facilities
The Gaza Health Ministry reported that critical incidents have occurred in local hospitals, including the Indonesian Hospital, where two patients died due to a lack of power caused by an Israeli strike. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the hostile actions around healthcare facilities, calling for immediate protection of health services. He announced plans for a mission to deliver essential medical supplies and support to hospitals in northern Gaza, asserting that "health care must be protected."
Calls for Ceasefire and Humanitarian Access
Humanitarian organizations, including Doctors Without Borders, have condemned the situation as collective punishment against the Palestinian population. They urged Israeli forces to halt their attacks on hospitals and allow safe passage for medical teams and supplies. The UN officials reiterated that international humanitarian law must be upheld to protect civilians and healthcare workers. As the conflict continues, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza escalates, with reports indicating over 142,000 casualties, including a significant number of women and children, amid widespread destruction and famine.
