Syrian Regime Targets Civilians in Rukban Camp Siege
The humanitarian crisis in the Rukban camp has escalated as Syrian regime forces targeted civilians attempting to deliver essential supplies. Reports indicate that these civilians were met with direct gunfire while trying to smuggle food and medicine into the camp, resulting in injuries. The Free Syrian Army confirmed that their efforts were aimed at providing critical aid, particularly for children in need of medicine and baby milk. The siege has severely limited access to basic necessities, affecting approximately 8,000 displaced persons still residing in the camp, a significant decrease from 45,000 in 2018. The Syrian National Coalition condemned the international community's inaction regarding the plight of those in Rukban, emphasizing the dire conditions caused by the regime's complete blockade.
Increased Violence in Idlib and Aleppo
In addition to the events in Rukban, violence has surged in Idlib and Aleppo, where civilians have also suffered from missile attacks and drone strikes by regime forces. Reports from the city of Sarmin in Idlib indicated that a missile attack injured several civilians, including a child. The regime's use of booby-trapped drones in western Aleppo has resulted in significant property damage. Furthermore, security sources reported the killing of two individuals in Damascus accused of planning terrorist operations, highlighting the ongoing security issues within the regime-controlled areas. Amidst this turmoil, Sheikh Hekmat Salman Al-Hijri has voiced support for ongoing protests in Sweida, criticizing the government's detachment from the realities faced by its citizens.
