Hezbollah's Missile Strike on Israeli Naval Base
In a significant escalation of military tensions in the region, Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for a missile strike on the Stella Maris naval base, located northwest of Haifa, Israel. Military expert Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi analyzed the situation, suggesting that the attack likely involved advanced ballistic missiles or Yakhont missiles, which Hezbollah referred to as
qualitative missiles.
This naval base is known to house advanced Israeli military vessels, including the Saar 5 and Saar 6 warships. Al-Duwairi noted that if the use of Yakhont missiles is confirmed, it would indicate a precise targeting of the base's military assets.
The Yakhont missile is recognized as one of the most sophisticated anti-ship missiles globally, capable of flying just above the sea surface to evade radar detection and reaching speeds twice that of sound, making it particularly challenging to intercept. Al-Duwairi emphasized that Hezbollah's strategy appears to focus on targeting critical military installations, particularly in the Haifa and Acre regions, which are vital for Israel's economic and tourism sectors.
Developments in Northern Gaza
Meanwhile, developments in northern Gaza indicate a shift in Israeli military operations. The Israeli army radio reported the withdrawal of the 460th Brigade from Jabalia, while the 401st and Givati Brigades continue their operations in the area. Al-Duwairi suggested that the withdrawal could be attributed to human losses, a common historical pattern in such military engagements. He also pointed out that the brigade's inability to execute a non-military mission—specifically the forced evacuation of residents from northern Gaza—may have contributed to this decision.
This withdrawal is seen by Al-Duwairi as part of a broader strategy that is beginning to face difficulties, particularly regarding the Israeli plan to besiege and displace residents while restricting humanitarian aid access. The ongoing military operations in the northern Gaza Strip, intensified since October 6, have led to significant violence and a humanitarian crisis in the region.
