Sudanese Ambassador to Tunisia, Ahmed Abdel Wahid Ahmed, reported that approximately 13 million Sudanese have been displaced due to ongoing conflicts, primarily attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). During a press conference in Tunis, he detailed that around 10 million are displaced internally within Sudan, while an estimated 2.5 to 3 million have fled abroad. The violence has resulted in over 5,000 deaths in the capital, Khartoum alone.
The RSF is accused of committing severe crimes in South Darfur and maintaining control over various areas, including parts of Khartoum and Al-Jazeera State. The ambassador emphasized that Sudan requires assistance in stopping the influx of mercenaries from neighboring countries rather than military support. He criticized the RSF for actions that violate humanitarian principles and called for international condemnation from the United Nations.
Ambassador Ahmed expressed hope that the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States could lead to a resolution of the conflict, noting Trump's focus on American internal affairs and a philosophy aimed at stopping wars. Since the conflict began in mid-April 2023, it has resulted in more than 20,000 deaths and significant displacement, prompting urgent calls from the international community and the UN for an end to the violence to prevent a humanitarian disaster.
