A 24-year-old man was shot and injured in Rennes on Tuesday evening in an incident involving three hooded men. According to police sources, the shooting occurred in the Villejean district before 10 p.m., when the assailants arrived in a Mercedes. One of the men exited the vehicle and shot the victim twice in the chest. A bullet hole was later found in the glass front door of a nearby building. The victim was transported to the emergency room by family members, and while initially reported as life-threatening, prosecutor Frédéric Teillet later confirmed that his life is not in danger. An investigation has been launched and is being handled by the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS) of the Rennes police.
Rennes has experienced a surge in violent incidents in recent months, with this shooting marking the 17th gun or knife-related attack since the summer, predominantly linked to drug trafficking. In a particularly alarming incident in October, a five-year-old child was seriously injured by gunfire during a chase related to drug activities. The ongoing violence highlights a troubling trend in the city, raising concerns about public safety and the influence of organized crime. The authorities are under pressure to address these escalating incidents and restore peace in the community.
