5-Year-Old Boy Shot in Rennes During Car Chase
A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday evening in Pacé, near Rennes, where a 5-year-old boy was shot and critically injured while in the back seat of a car. The gendarmerie confirmed that the vehicle, driven by his father, was targeted in a drive-by shooting by several hooded assailants. The child sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was immediately rushed to Rennes hospital, where his life remains in danger.
The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. at the Ponant roundabout, as the father attempted to evade the attackers. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the assailants pursued the family and opened fire multiple times, striking the trunk and rear window of the vehicle. Fortunately, the father was unharmed during the attack.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which may be linked to an earlier incident involving gunfire in the Maurepas district of Rennes, believed to be associated with drug trafficking. The Rennes research section is leading the investigation in collaboration with the departmental gendarmerie group of Ille-et-Vilaine. Local media reported that the father had alerted the police prior to the attack, expressing concerns for his safety while attempting to drop his son off at his mother's house in Pacé.
