Thousands Protest in Italy Against Ongoing Conflicts
On October 26, 2024, thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across several Italian cities, including Rome, Milan, and Florence, to voice their opposition to ongoing wars in Gaza, Lebanon, and Ukraine. Organized by the Italian General Labor Union and various civil society organizations, the protests were held under the unifying slogan, "Let's stop the wars, it's time for peace."
In Rome, a significant gathering occurred at Ostiense Square, where demonstrators chanted for peace and demanded an end to the military actions in these conflict zones. Participants carried banners condemning the violence, some specifically calling for an end to what they termed the genocide in Gaza and criticizing the Italian government's increased defense spending. Maurizio Landini, Secretary General of the Italian General Labor Union, expressed his discontent with the European Union's role in conflict resolution and highlighted the need for a more proactive stance against war.
