Qatar, US, and Egypt Work Towards Gaza Ceasefire
In a continued effort to establish a ceasefire in Gaza, Qatar, the United States, and Egypt are intensifying their diplomatic discussions. Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that a recent meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Doha focused on the latest developments in Gaza and Lebanon. The Qatari minister emphasized the urgency of halting the violence, condemning the Israeli siege on northern Gaza and the bombardment of hospitals, calling for a collective responsibility to protect innocent civilians.
The discussions follow reports that both American and Israeli negotiation teams are set to visit Doha to advance ceasefire negotiations. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated that the success of mediation efforts relies heavily on the positive engagement of all parties involved. He also highlighted the necessity of a sustainable resolution to the Palestinian issue, underscoring the two-state solution as a pivotal reference for peace.
US Secretary of State Blinken expressed appreciation for Qatar's role in facilitating peace talks, acknowledging the country's significant humanitarian contributions to Gaza. As he embarks on his 11th tour of the region since the onset of the conflict on October 7, 2023, Blinken emphasized Washington's commitment to securing the release of prisoners and ending hostilities in Gaza.
