Loss of Contact with Kamal Adwan Hospital Amid Ongoing Conflict
The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported a critical situation as contact has been lost with the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, which was stormed by Israeli forces. The WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed grave concern for the safety of approximately 200 patients and numerous displaced individuals sheltering there. Prior to the loss of communication, hospital director Hussam Abu Safiya reported that the facility had sustained injuries among its medical staff due to Israeli shelling. The hospital was awaiting medical assistance when it was instead met with military tanks.
The WHO's ability to access hospitals across Gaza has significantly diminished, exacerbating the already dire health crisis in the region, where the humanitarian situation has been deteriorating for 21 days. The Ministry of Health in Gaza has urgently called for international intervention, condemning the situation as a
and urging global leaders to take action against the ongoing violence.
Accusations of War Crimes by Hamas and Human Rights Organizations
In a statement, Hamas condemned the Israeli incursion into Kamal Adwan Hospital as a
attributing the actions to American support for Israel's military operations. They accused the Israeli government of conducting an ethnic cleansing campaign in northern Gaza, which has resulted in numerous civilian casualties, predominantly affecting women and children. The organization has called on Arab and Islamic nations to take decisive steps to protect the Palestinian people and to hold the international community accountable for its inaction.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has also called for an investigation into the alleged abuses occurring at the hospital, where reports indicate that Israeli forces have detained men, women, and children, subjecting those above 13 to interrogation and mistreatment. The organization emphasized the urgent need for international bodies to ensure the safety of medical personnel and patients, as the humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza escalates, with continuous bombardments leading to widespread destruction and displacement of residents.
