France's Commitment to Ukraine Amid Escalating Conflict
In a recent interview with the BBC, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot emphasized France's unwavering support for Ukraine amidst the ongoing war with Russia. He stated, "We will support Ukraine as intensely and as long as necessary," highlighting the direct threat posed to European security as Russian forces advance. Barrot's remarks come in the wake of heightened tensions following Ukraine's use of long-range American missiles against Russian territory, marking a significant escalation in the conflict.
No Limits on Support for Ukraine
Barrot urged Western allies not to impose any limits on their support for Ukraine, asserting that every square kilometer gained by Russian forces brings the threat closer to Europe. He stated, "Western allies should not set limits on support for Ukraine against Russia," reinforcing the idea that all options, including the potential use of French long-range missiles by Ukraine, remain on the table. This statement aligns with French President Emmanuel Macron's earlier comments advocating for a strategic ambiguity regarding military support, including the possibility of sending ground troops if necessary.

In addition to military support, Barrot expressed openness to Ukraine's aspirations for NATO membership, a goal actively pursued by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
