French Foreign Minister Visits Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot arrived in Kyiv this Saturday, marking his first visit to Ukraine amid rising tensions and threats from Russian forces. The visit comes as the Ukrainian capital remains on high alert due to the potential for Iranian-designed Russian attack drones. Barrot emphasized France's unwavering support for Ukraine's resistance against Russian aggression, stating on social media, "Support, again and again, for Ukraine's resistance against Russian aggression."
During his weekend visit, Barrot is scheduled to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andriï Sybiga. He expressed the importance of this visit on France Inter radio, noting that he aims to convey France's commitment to addressing crises and highlighting the stakes involved in Ukraine, particularly regarding the security of Europe, including food and energy security.
Barrot's visit follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's recent announcement of a "victory plan" aimed at countering Russian advances. Zelensky has called for Western allies to lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons and to continue providing military aid to bolster the training and equipping of reserve brigades within the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
