Traces of Plague Detected in Letter Sent to Chalon-sur-Saône School
Authorities in Saône-et-Loire confirmed that traces of the plague were found in a letter sent to the Colint School training center in Chalon-sur-Saône. The prefecture reported that the letter contained a white powder that tested positive for the bacteria responsible for the plague. Fortunately, no individuals exposed to the mail have reported any symptoms related to the infection.
Medical Response and Precautionary Measures
In response to the incident, six employees of the Colint School were placed under medical surveillance at the Chalon-sur-Saône University Hospital (CHU) within a specialized nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical (NRBC) unit. The prefecture emphasized that these individuals did not exhibit any symptoms of the plague. A monitoring unit that was activated to coordinate precautionary measures and response efforts was lifted early Wednesday evening.
Upcoming Press Conference and Further Analysis
The prefect of Saône-et-Loire is scheduled to hold a press conference on Thursday morning, where he will be joined by officials from the Regional Health Agency (ARS), the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS), and police services to discuss the situation. Additionally, a specialized laboratory has been enlisted to conduct further analysis of the substance found in the letter. The Colint School, located in the La Sucrerie district, is a private institution focusing on digital professions and serves approximately thirty students.
