Nadir Chekab, 58, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of his partner, Annick Bermand, 51, by the Assize Court of Meurthe-et-Moselle. The court's decision followed the recommendations of attorney general Eurydice Lorent, who highlighted the accused's intent to kill. Chekab confessed to his GP on March 12, 2021, that he had strangled Bermand during an argument a few days prior, specifically on the night of March 7 to 8, 2021, at their home in Tucquegnieux, France. After his confession to the police, officers found Bermand's lifeless body at the scene. During the trial, Chekab did not contest the charges, expressing remorse for his actions through his lawyer, Samira Boudiba. The couple had been together for 25 years, and Boudiba noted that Bermand had previously been the only one convicted of violence against Chekab in their relationship.
