Munir Shafiq Addresses Global Conscience on Israeli Genocide
In a recent interview, Palestinian thinker Munir Shafiq condemned the ongoing Israeli actions against Palestinians, labeling it a genocide supported by Western powers, particularly the United States. Speaking at an international conference titled 'Free Palestine' in Istanbul, Shafiq emphasized that the Palestinian struggle has gained significant political and moral ground internationally. He noted a surge in global demonstrations against Israel's military actions, reflecting a shift in public opinion that favors the Palestinian cause.
Shafiq highlighted that 149 out of 193 UN member states now recognize Palestine, with recent endorsements from countries like Spain, Norway, and Ireland. He pointed out the severing of diplomatic relations by nations such as Nicaragua and Colombia with Israel, showcasing a growing international discontent with Israel's actions. Despite these advancements, Shafiq criticized the unwavering support from Western countries for Israel, attributing it to historical ties to the Zionist project. He stated, 'The position of Western countries and America is completely understandable, because the Zionist project is its son.'
Furthermore, Shafiq defended the legitimacy of the Palestinian resistance, asserting that the Al-Aqsa Flood represents a rightful response to occupation. He argued that the Israeli government's ambitions to annex the West Bank and Jerusalem will fail without military victory, which he believes is unattainable. Shafiq concluded by affirming the Palestinian claim to all of historic Palestine, insisting that the narrative of a small Palestinian state is a misrepresentation of their rights. He remains optimistic about the outcome of the ongoing conflict, predicting that the resistance will ultimately prevail.
