Moscow Braces for Sharp Cold Snap as Autumn Arrives
This weekend, Moscow is set to experience a significant temperature drop, marking the arrival of autumn weather. According to Alexander Ilyin, a forecaster at the Meteo forecasting center, temperatures will plummet to autumn levels, with the first signs of the season becoming evident on the day of the autumn equinox. While Saturday will see relatively warm temperatures ranging from +19 to +21 °C in the city and +18 to +23 °C in the surrounding region, residents should prepare for much cooler conditions on Sunday.
As the weekend progresses, the capital will experience gusty winds reaching up to 15 m/s, with nighttime temperatures dropping to between +6 and +8 °C. Ilyin predicts that Sunday will be the last day of the warm September weather, with daytime highs only reaching +13 to +15 °C. The peak of the cold snap is expected overnight from Sunday to Monday, with temperatures potentially falling to 0 to +2 °C in Moscow and -3 to +2 °C in the surrounding areas.
Experts Confirm the Shift to Autumn Weather
Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, echoed Ilyin's sentiments, stating that the capital will soon be under the influence of a cold atmospheric front that will not bring rain but will significantly lower temperatures. He noted that the warm weather will be short-lived, as the first real signs of autumn will become apparent in the last three days of September.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations for Moscow has issued warnings regarding the upcoming frosts, advising motorists to exercise caution on the roads. The head of the Meteo forecasting center, Alexander Shuvalov, has also dismissed rumors of a 'second summer' in the capital, asserting that the transition to winter-like conditions is underway.
Health Tips for Coping with the Seasonal Shift
As the weather turns colder, health professionals are advising residents to dress appropriately to avoid seasonal illnesses. Therapist Irina Yartseva emphasized the importance of dressing for the weather, cautioning against being misled by deceptive sunny conditions. With the onset of autumn, it is crucial for residents to adapt to the changing climate to maintain their health and well-being.
