Moscow Drone Attack: 32 UAVs Destroyed by Russian Defense Forces
On November 10, 2024, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the destruction of 32 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeting the capital. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that two UAVs were shot down in the Ramenskoye district, with additional interceptions occurring in Domodedovo and Kolomna. This incident marks a significant escalation in drone attacks on Moscow, following a previous attack on September 10, which resulted in one fatality and extensive property damage.
Sobyanin's updates began at 08:37 Moscow time, detailing the rapid response of defense forces to the incoming threats. The attack caused fires in two residential buildings in Ramenskoye, injuring a 52-year-old woman who was hospitalized with burns. Emergency services were promptly deployed to the scene to assist the affected residents.
In response to the drone threats, civil aviation authorities enacted temporary flight restrictions at major airports, including Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo, to ensure passenger safety. These restrictions were lifted later in the morning as the situation stabilized.
The head of Domodedovo Airport, Evgeniya Khrustaleva, urged the public to refrain from sharing images or videos of the drone activity, citing potential risks of aiding future attacks. Meanwhile, the Telegram channel “Military Chronicle” speculated that the PD-1/PD-2 type drones were used in the latest raid, noting a change in their flight patterns, with altitudes reportedly not exceeding 20-25 meters.
In a broader context, the Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting additional UAVs across various regions, including Bryansk, Oryol, Kaluga, and Kursk, indicating a coordinated series of drone incursions. This highlights ongoing tensions and the evolving nature of aerial threats in the region.
