Israel's Vulnerability in the Second Phase of Military Operations
Military expert Brigadier General Hassan Jouni has indicated that Israel's military operations in Lebanon have entered a cautious second phase, during which Hezbollah is expected to leverage more sophisticated weaponry and tactical maneuvers. Jouni noted that the Israeli army has begun operations in Aitaroun but is advancing slowly towards Bint Jbeil. He emphasized that Hezbollah's strategy includes luring Israeli forces into vulnerable positions before launching counterattacks, particularly utilizing long-range missiles like the 'Nasr 1'.
Escalation of Attacks and Israeli Response
The situation has escalated, with Hezbollah increasing its strikes against Israeli military targets, including the Ministry of Defense. In response, the Israeli army has intensified its operations, conducting artillery shelling in southern Lebanon and air raids on Beirut's southern suburbs. Reports indicate that the Israeli forces have targeted areas such as Majdal Zun and Naqoura, while also issuing evacuation orders to residents in affected neighborhoods. Jouni accused Israel of conducting these operations to exert psychological pressure on the Lebanese population.
Strategic Implications for the Region
As the conflict unfolds, Jouni warns that Israel's increasing military presence in Lebanon may expose it to greater risks, particularly in fortified areas beyond the border. He believes that as Israeli forces advance, they become more susceptible to Hezbollah's countermeasures. The ongoing military actions highlight the fragile security situation in the region and raise concerns about further escalation between the two sides.
