March in Amman: A Show of Solidarity for Gaza and Lebanon
On October 4, 2024, over two thousand Jordanians gathered in the heart of Amman to express their unwavering support for the Gaza Strip and Lebanon amidst ongoing violence and humanitarian crises. The march, organized by the National Forum for Supporting the Resistance, was held under the poignant slogan, "October 7, the harbingers of victory."
The demonstrators commenced their rally from Al-Husseini Mosque after Friday prayers, making their way to Al-Nakhil Square, approximately one kilometer away. Participants voiced their solidarity with chants such as, "Oh, resistor, come out and see... we have pledged allegiance to you in the open," and "Revenge, revenge... Oh, Hezbollah and Oh, Qassam." These sentiments echoed the deep-rooted frustrations and aspirations of those affected by the ongoing conflict.
The event not only featured chants but also a display of flags, including Palestinian, Lebanese, and Jordanian banners, symbolizing unity in the face of adversity. The marchers called for the closure of the Israeli embassy in Jordan and the annulment of the 1994 peace agreement with Israel, reflecting a growing discontent with the current political climate.
This rally comes at a time when Israel has intensified its military operations in Lebanon, marking one of the most violent periods in recent history, particularly since the confrontations with Hezbollah escalated a year ago. Observers note that the situation remains dire, with sirens frequently sounding across Israel due to retaliatory attacks from Hezbollah.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached alarming levels, with reports indicating over 138,000 Palestinian deaths, many of whom are women and children, since the onset of the conflict on October 7. The march serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by those in the region and the urgent need for international attention and intervention.
