A health official in the Gaza Strip has reported that Israeli army forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital, detaining its director, Hussam Abu Safiya, for questioning. This military action, which took place on Friday, has raised serious concerns regarding the treatment of patients and medical staff within the facility. Maher Shamiya, the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, stated that the Israeli forces forced Abu Safiya outside to meet the commander of the operation, where he was subjected to investigation. The raid has resulted in the detention of not only the hospital director but also numerous patients, their companions, and medical personnel, with their current status remaining unknown.
The Israeli forces reportedly separated men and women in the hospital courtyard, allowing women to leave but detaining men, some of whom were stripped of their clothing and tied up for questioning. Shamiya has urgently called for international intervention from organizations such as the United Nations to protect health workers and patients, urging the Israeli army to withdraw from hospitals in northern Gaza and allow the delivery of essential supplies like fuel, food, water, and medicine. The ongoing military operations have severely impacted healthcare services, with the World Health Organization reporting a loss of contact with the hospital amid the escalating violence in the region.
