Israel Uncovers Iranian Assassination Plot Targeting Scientist
Israeli authorities have arrested an individual allegedly recruited by Iran to carry out an assassination plot against an Israeli scientist. The suspect, identified as Vladimir Varkhovsky, 35, from Tel Aviv, reportedly agreed to the assassination for $100,000 and was allegedly provided with a weapon to execute the mission. This operation was coordinated by Iranian intelligence, with communications reportedly conducted in English.
The Shin Bet security service and Israeli police revealed that Varkhovsky was involved in several activities for Iranian intelligence, including distributing propaganda and gathering information on Israeli targets. His arrest is part of a broader investigation that has uncovered a network of Iranian operatives attempting to recruit Israeli citizens for espionage and assassination missions.
In a related case, another suspect, Vladislav Viktorson, 30, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a separate Iranian plot, which included plans to use explosives against a target in Israel. The authorities have expressed concerns about the increasing efforts by Iranian intelligence to infiltrate Israeli society and undermine national security.
