Escalating Conflict: Shelling and Rocket Attacks Between Israel and Lebanon
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon has intensified, marked by continuous shelling in southern Lebanon and retaliatory rocket fire into northern Israel. On October 1, 2024, reports emerged of Israeli artillery targeting multiple towns in southern Lebanon, including Kfar Kila, Adaisseh, Khiyam, and Wazzani. The situation escalated as over 100 rockets were launched from Lebanon, landing in Israeli territories, particularly in the town of Metula, although no casualties were reported there.
Tragically, the Lebanese News Agency reported that an Israeli bombardment resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, including children, from the same family in Al-Dawadiya. The violence has led to significant casualties on both sides, with the Israeli army announcing the establishment of a closed military zone in northern Israel, indicating the seriousness of the situation.
Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group, confirmed its involvement, claiming to have targeted Israeli soldiers in Matula with a barrage of rockets, achieving direct hits. The Israeli military responded with intensive air and artillery strikes in southern Lebanon, marking one of the most violent escalations since the conflict began a year ago. Since September 23, the violence has resulted in at least 962 deaths, including women and children, and thousands more injured, highlighting the urgent need for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid.
