Houthi Leader Claims 188 Ships Targeted in Support of Gaza
In a recent address, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthis in Yemen, revealed that his group has targeted 188 ships since November 2023, as part of their support for Gaza amidst escalating tensions in the region. Speaking via the Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah channel, al-Houthi emphasized that the aggression from the United States and Israel will not deter their operations, asserting that their jihad will persist despite ongoing attacks on Yemen.
The Houthi leader's remarks come in light of recent Israeli airstrikes on Al-Hodeidah, which reportedly killed six individuals and injured many others. Al-Houthi condemned these actions, stating that the targeting of Hodeidah will not halt their military initiatives. He also highlighted the downing of several American MQ-9 drones, claiming a total of 11 such aircraft have been shot down in 2024 alone.
In solidarity with Gaza, which has faced intense conflict since October 7, 2023, the Houthis have launched missiles and drones at Israeli-linked cargo ships in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea. This escalation follows a coalition intervention by Washington and London, which has resulted in strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen. The Houthis now regard all American and British vessels as military targets, further complicating the already tense maritime situation in the region.
