Israeli Drone Strike Targets Fishermen in Tyre, Lebanon
On November 23, 2024, Al Jazeera's Beirut bureau chief, Mazen Ibrahim, provided a harrowing account of an Israeli drone strike that targeted three fishermen from the same family on the beaches of Tyre, Lebanon. According to reports from the Civil Defense in southern Lebanon, the attack resulted in one fatality and two injuries among the fishermen, who were engaged in their daily livelihood of fishing.
Ibrahim detailed the incident, stating that the fishermen had arrived at their usual spot to cast their nets. After setting up, they retreated to a nearby sand dune to prepare their gear. Moments later, an Israeli drone launched a missile at them, killing one fisherman and seriously injuring another, while the third sustained injuries as well. Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene to assist the victims. Ibrahim highlighted the tragic reality that these fishermen were unarmed civilians, simply trying to make a living in a city where over 95% of the population has fled due to ongoing Israeli military actions.
The Al Jazeera correspondent condemned the attack as a deliberate act of violence, emphasizing that such incidents are not isolated but rather part of a pattern of aggression against civilians in Tyre and southern Lebanon. He noted the dire situation in the region, where food supplies are scarce, exacerbating the suffering of those who remain.
