Gaza Health Ministry's Urgent Appeal for Shrouds
In a desperate plea, Dr. Munir Al-Barsh, the Director General of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, has called upon Arab nations to send shrouds to hospitals in northern Gaza. This appeal comes as the existing supplies have been depleted due to ongoing violence and casualties. Dr. Al-Barsh emphasized the dire situation, stating, "Doctors and patients cannot find a bite of bread or a drink of water in the hospitals of northern Gaza. Instead of the patient finding treatment in the hospital, he dies and is buried inside, turning them into mass graves."
The Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
The situation in Gaza has escalated dramatically since the onset of Israeli military operations on October 5, 2023. Dr. Al-Barsh reported that over a thousand medical personnel have been killed, with 310 others arrested. The Israeli army's actions have been described as war crimes, particularly for targeting hospitals and obstructing humanitarian aid. For 19 consecutive days, the Red Cross and the World Health Organization have been unable to deliver essential supplies, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
International Response and the Call for Aid
The ongoing conflict has resulted in catastrophic losses, with reports indicating that approximately 143,000 Palestinians have been killed or wounded, with children and women comprising a significant portion of the casualties. Amidst this devastation, the international community is urged to take action. Dr. Al-Barsh's appeal highlights the need for immediate assistance to prevent further loss of life and to address the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza.
