Erdogan's Stance on Syrian Unity
In a recent address, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized Turkey's commitment to maintaining the territorial integrity of Syria following the recent upheaval that led to the fall of the Baath Party regime. Speaking in Ankara, Erdogan stated, "We cannot allow Syria to be divided again," highlighting the importance of a unified Syrian state after decades of conflict under the oppressive rule of Bashar al-Assad.
Erdogan's remarks come in the wake of significant developments in Syria, where opposition factions have reportedly taken control of the capital, Damascus, marking a pivotal shift in the country's political landscape. The Turkish president expressed hope for a brighter future for Syria, stating, "The Syrian people crowned their noble uprising with victory, overthrew the decades-long oppressive regime, and defended their freedom, rights, law, and future."
Support for Syrian Immigrants
Additionally, Erdogan reaffirmed Turkey's support for Syrian immigrants who are preparing to return home, asserting that Turkey has stood by them throughout their struggles. He noted, "We protected the Syrian people and helped them for years because of our love for them; they are our brothers." Erdogan also condemned any racist sentiments directed towards Syrian immigrants in Turkey, emphasizing the nation's hospitality.
The Turkish president's speech also included a call to action against what he termed "terrorist organizations" in Syria, including the Islamic State and Kurdish groups. He expressed a desire to eliminate these threats swiftly to ensure stability in the region.
