China Set to Unveil Advanced Military Aircraft at Airshow China 2024
China is preparing to showcase its latest military advancements, including the J-35A radar-evading fighter jet and various attack drones, at the upcoming Airshow China in Zhuhai. This biennial event marks the 75th anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force and is expected to draw significant attention from global military analysts and adversaries.
The J-35A, described as a medium-sized multi-role fighter, bears a resemblance to the U.S. F-35 stealth fighter, although detailed capabilities remain undisclosed. Experts suggest that the unveiling indicates confidence from China's top leadership in the fighter's impending operational readiness. If successful, China would join the United States as the only other nation with two stealth fighters in service.
In addition to the J-35A, the air show will feature the HQ-19 surface-to-air missile system, capable of intercepting ballistic missiles and hypersonic glide vehicles, as well as the J-15T fighter, which is designed for use on China's latest aircraft carrier, the Fujian.
Focus on Drones and International Relations
The air show will also highlight China's advancements in drone technology, where it has established a strong presence in the commercial sector. Among the drones on display is the SS drone, which can deploy swarms of smaller drones for reconnaissance and strike missions. Experts note that while the U.S. maintains superior drone performance, China is emerging as a significant player in the drone market.
The inclusion of a dedicated drone area at the air show underscores their increasing relevance in modern warfare, particularly in conflict zones like Ukraine. Furthermore, the event will showcase the growing military cooperation between China and Russia, with Russian officials in attendance and the demonstration of the Su-57 stealth fighter. This collaboration highlights a strengthened defense relationship amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.
