Iraq Leads in Arab University Rankings for 2024
The Arab Scientific Journals Impact Factor (ARCIF) initiative has released its ninth annual report for 2024, revealing that Iraq's University of Baghdad has topped the list of Arab universities with the highest number of citations, achieving an impressive 10,739 citations. This report evaluates the impact of scientific production in Arabic and measures the citation influence of authors affiliated with various institutions across the Arab world.
The report highlights the significant contributions of universities from five Arab nations: Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia. Professor Sami Al-Khazindar, head of the ARCIF initiative, emphasized that the report not only assesses the volume of scientific production but also the impact of research published in Arabic. The data indicates a 12% increase in the number of universities and research institutions participating, totaling 1,165.
Top 10 Universities by Citation Impact
The ARCIF 2024 report ranks the top 10 Arab universities based on citation impact, revealing the following standings: 1. University of Baghdad, Iraq - 10,739 citations from 4,301 articles. 2. Ain Shams University, Egypt - 8,039 citations from 2,232 articles. 3. King Saud University, Saudi Arabia - 7,933 citations from 1,833 articles. 4. Yarmouk University, Jordan - 6,545 citations from 1,437 articles. 5. University of Jordan - 6,348 citations from 1,655 articles. 6. University of Kasdi Merbah Ouargla, Algeria - 6,066 citations from 1,492 articles. 7. Balqa Applied University, Jordan - 5,129 citations from 1,052 articles. 8. Helwan University, Egypt - 5,080 citations from 1,699 articles. 9. Cairo University, Egypt - 4,905 citations from 1,608 articles. 10. University of Mohamed Khider, Algeria - 4,904 citations from 1,683 articles.
Measuring Impact in Arabic Scientific Production
In terms of scientific production published in Arabic, the report indicates that the University of Jordan leads with 13,010 citations from 2,714 articles. Ain Shams University follows with 3,335 citations from 11,952 articles. The report also highlights the significant contributions from Iraq and Algeria, with the University of Baghdad achieving 11,241 citations from 4,419 articles, and the University of Kasdi Merbah Ouargla receiving 11,803 citations from 2,572 articles.
The ARCIF report is a comprehensive analysis of over 850,000 scientific articles and the contributions of more than 311,000 Arab authors, marking a pivotal moment in recognizing the impact of Arab universities in the global scientific community. For the first time, a digital version of the report will be made available to stakeholders in the field of Arab scientific research before the end of the year.
