US Army Charges Soldier with Manslaughter in Death of Sgt. Sarah Roque
The US Army has charged Specialist Wooster Rancy, 21, from the 5th Engineer Battalion, with murder and obstruction of justice in connection with the death of Sgt. Sarah Roque, 23. Roque's body was discovered on October 21, 2024, inside a dumpster at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, just hours after she was reported missing. The Army announced the charges on October 31, 2024, stating that Rancy is currently in pretrial detention awaiting a preliminary hearing.
Rancy, who enlisted in the Army in 2022, was taken into custody shortly after Roque's body was found. The circumstances surrounding their relationship remain unclear, and attempts to reach family members of both Rancy and Roque have been unsuccessful. Maj. Gen. Christopher Beck, the commander of Fort Leonard Wood, expressed the devastation felt by the base community, highlighting Roque's service and commitment as a leader within her unit.
