Al Jazeera Cameraman Fadi Al-Wahidi Appeals for Medical Treatment Outside Gaza
Fadi Al-Wahidi, a 24-year-old Al Jazeera cameraman, has made a desperate appeal for medical treatment outside the besieged Gaza Strip. After being shot by an Israeli sniper on October 9 while covering a military incursion into Jabalia camp, Al-Wahidi has been bedridden for 40 days, suffering from severe pain and paralysis due to a spinal cord injury. His current condition has left him unable to sit up or even hold his phone, leading to feelings of loneliness and helplessness.
In an emotional interview with Al Jazeera Net, Al-Wahidi expressed his determination to continue his work as a journalist despite his critical condition, stating that he has no regrets about documenting the suffering and destruction caused by the ongoing conflict. His mother, Hiba Al-Wahidi, who is battling cancer, has gone on a hunger strike to protest the restrictions preventing her son from receiving necessary medical treatment abroad. She described the role reversal in their relationship, highlighting her helplessness in alleviating her son's suffering.
Hiba Al-Wahidi has issued a heartfelt plea to the international community, urging them to intervene and help her son access the medical care he desperately needs. She emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “I call upon you with an eye of mercy, help Fadi obtain his most basic rights and intervene to get him out to travel and receive treatment abroad before it is too late.”
Fadi Al-Wahidi's case underscores the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where medical resources are severely limited, and many patients are unable to receive adequate treatment due to ongoing conflict and blockades.
