Al-Burhan Denies Settlement with Rapid Support Forces
Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Army, has firmly rejected rumors regarding a potential settlement or negotiation with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In a statement made during the 'Eastern Sudan Women's Issues Conference' in Port Sudan, he emphasized the army's unwavering commitment to eradicating what he termed 'the rebellion.' Al-Burhan stated that discussions about a political conference were inaccurate and asserted that there is no agreement with any political faction, labeling such claims as completely false.
Al-Burhan's remarks come in the wake of recent military successes, including the Sudanese army's reclaiming of the 17th Division headquarters in Singa, Sennar State, following intense confrontations with the RSF. This victory marks a significant milestone as it is the first state capital the army has regained since the conflict erupted on April 15 of last year. The strategic importance of Singa lies in its location on a vital route linking areas under army control in eastern and central Sudan.
Ongoing Conflict and Humanitarian Crisis
The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis, with thousands of casualties and over 11 million people displaced. The International Organization for Migration reports that approximately 3.1 million individuals have fled the country due to the violence. Al-Burhan reiterated that the armed forces, along with other regular forces, are resolutely advancing to dismantle what he described as the 'criminal terrorist militia of Al-Dagalo.' He also extended an invitation for reconciliation, stating, 'The door of repentance and return to the truth is open to everyone who laid down his arms and turned to peace.'
