An 18-year-old high school student has been placed in police custody after stabbing his English teacher in the face at the Hyrôme high school in Chemillé-en-Anjou, Maine-et-Loire. The incident, which occurred on Monday morning, also revealed that the young man had targeted two other students at the establishment. Angers public prosecutor, Éric Bouillard, reported that the suspect had prepared his act for several days.
The investigation led to the extension of the young man's custody with potential charges of attempted murder and introduction of a weapon into a school. During the attack, the suspect approached his teacher from behind and slashed her cheek with a knife he had brought in his bag. After the assault, he abandoned the weapon and fled through a window but was quickly apprehended by the municipal police.

He was unknown to police or judicial services and had not drawn any negative attention within the school. Prosecutor Bouillard clarified that there was no evidence of school harassment, religious motives, or radicalization involved in the incident.
While the teacher sustained a facial injury, her life is not in danger. However, Bouillard emphasized that the psychological impact on the teacher would be significant. A psychological support unit has been set up for the school community. Officials, including the Prosecutor, Academic Director, Mayor of Chemillé-en-Anjou, and the sub-prefect of Cholet, addressed the staff present to offer support and information.
