Escalating Crisis in Gaza: UN Calls for Immediate Ceasefire
The United Nations Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wensland, addressed the Security Council on the escalating violence in the Gaza Strip, specifically highlighting Israel's extensive ground operations in Rafah. Algerian diplomatic efforts have manifested in a draft resolution circulated among Security Council members, demanding an end to Israeli attacks in Rafah and an unconditional release of all hostages. This move follows a tragic incident on Monday where an Israeli strike on displaced persons' tents in Rafah resulted in 45 deaths and around 250 injuries, drawing widespread international condemnation.
