Night Attacks on Russian Regions: Taganrog and Bryansk Under Fire
In the early hours of December 11, 2024, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched missile attacks on the Russian city of Taganrog in the Rostov region, causing significant damage to an industrial facility and resulting in the destruction of 14 vehicles parked nearby. Acting governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed that no civilians were reported injured, though the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Local residents reported hearing at least ten explosions, prompting a missile hazard warning in the area.
The mayor of Taganrog, Svetlana Kambulova, detailed the damage to a boiler house on Tsiolkovsky Street, which is expected to be restored by noon. However, the attack has left 27 apartment buildings without heat. Kambulova urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation, emphasizing the importance of not sharing videos that could be exploited by adversaries.
In addition to Taganrog, the Bryansk Oblast also faced attacks, where a drone strike resulted in a fire at a production facility. Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz reported that the fire was extinguished and that Russian air defense forces successfully intercepted 14 Ukrainian UAVs during the night.
Escalation in the Donetsk People's Republic
The situation escalated further as the Ukrainian Armed Forces targeted the city of Yenakiyevo in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) with high-precision long-range weapons. Denis Pushilin, the head of the DPR, reported six armed attacks utilizing 155 mm caliber artillery and drones. One drone attack in the Nikitsky district of Gorlovka resulted in serious injuries to a man, who is currently receiving medical attention.
In response to the attacks, an evacuation was announced for the area adjacent to the site of the drone strike, although it is voluntary. Alexander Demenkov, deputy head of the Yenakiyevo municipal formation, stated that all necessary services are on alert and have organized safe spaces for evacuees, providing food and rest facilities. He reassured the public that the situation is under control, with no additional casualties reported.
Meanwhile, reports from the Zaporizhia Oblast indicated that infrastructure facilities were damaged, with nearly 270 explosions recorded in areas controlled by Ukrainian forces, highlighting the ongoing volatility in the region.
