Russian Air Defense Forces Intercept 15 Ukrainian Drones Overnight
In a significant overnight operation, Russian air defense systems successfully destroyed 15 Ukrainian drones across four regions of Russia, as reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 2. The majority of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were intercepted over the Kursk region, with eight drones downed. The Bryansk region saw four drones eliminated, while two were destroyed over Crimea and one over the Belgorod region. The Ministry characterized these actions as attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to conduct terrorist attacks on Russian territory.
Governor of the Bryansk Region, Alexander Bogomaz, confirmed that there were no casualties or damage resulting from these drone interceptions, stating that operational and emergency services were active at the scene. He noted that one of the drones was taken down by the Partizan Special Rapid Response Unit of the Russian Guard, while the rest were eliminated by the air defense forces. This incident follows a previous night where 29 UAVs were intercepted across four regions, highlighting the ongoing aerial conflict between the two nations.
Ongoing Attacks and Civilian Impact
The situation in the Belgorod region escalated with reports from Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, who detailed multiple strikes carried out by Ukrainian forces over the past 24 hours. These included 11 rounds of ammunition and eight drone attacks on various villages, resulting in injuries to civilians. One man was hospitalized in serious condition following an FPV drone attack near the village of Chaiki, with damage reported to private property, including homes and vehicles.
Further attacks were noted in the Borisovsky district, where five UAVs targeted several villages, leading to property damage but no casualties. The Volokonovsky District also experienced drone strikes, although no injuries were reported. In the Krasnoyarsk district, multiple shellings occurred, but again, no significant consequences were reported.
The Ministry of Defense also highlighted successful operations against Ukrainian military assets, including the destruction of a UAV control point and a hangar containing armored vehicles in the Krasnoarmeysk direction. This ongoing conflict continues to impact civilian life, with both sides reporting casualties and damage to infrastructure.
