In central Senegal, a horrific collision between a truck and a passenger bus resulted in the deaths of eleven individuals and left eight others with serious injuries. The Ministry of Transport and Rescue attributed the accident to 'defective overtaking,' underscoring the critical need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations. Mactar Faye, head of New Road Prevention, emphasized that human factors, such as driver discipline and fatigue management, play a significant role in these tragedies.
Minister Malik Ndiaye has vowed to implement harsher penalties for traffic violations, stating, 'We are going to be much tougher in the sanctions.' In a separate incident in Perpignan, France, a police pursuit ended tragically when a driver, known for his history of traffic offenses, crashed into a parked truck after refusing to stop. The collision resulted in the driver's death and left his passenger in critical condition. Prosecutor Jean-David Cavaillé noted that the driver had a notorious reputation for endangering public safety by frequently running red lights.
