14-Year-Old Boy Drives Recklessly at 180 km/h in Doubs
A shocking incident unfolded in Doubs, where a 14-year-old boy stole his parents' car and led police on a dangerous chase, reaching speeds of 180 km/h on the motorway. The boy, who has no prior criminal record, has been placed under judicial supervision by the Montbéliard prosecutor's office, as he faces serious charges including deliberate endangerment, theft, and driving without a license.
The reckless escapade began last Wednesday when the teenager fled his home in Courcelles-lès-Montbéliard, taking his parents' Peugeot 206 and his father's bank card. The following day, police spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to intercept him. However, the young driver skillfully maneuvered through traffic, initially evading capture by speeding at 80 km/h in a 20 km/h zone.
The pursuit escalated as police tracked him again, this time as he drove up the emergency lane of the A36 motorway near Besançon, heading towards the Jura region. Reports indicate that he continued to weave through traffic at an alarming speed of 180 km/h, showcasing a blatant disregard for safety. In a shocking turn of events, the boy then made a U-turn, driving against oncoming traffic on the motorway before losing control of the vehicle and crashing on a slip road.
This reckless driving resulted in a collision involving three vehicles, including a police car, leading to minor injuries for three individuals involved. The boy was eventually apprehended on foot in a nearby village, where he reportedly apologized profusely for his actions.
The prosecutor, Paul-Édouard Lallois, expressed disbelief at the boy's ability to evade authorities and the dangerous nature of his driving. He described the teenager's explanations as “quite lunar,” noting that while he mentioned having problems at school, he did not elaborate further. This incident raises concerns about the circumstances surrounding the boy, who is from an ordinary family and had previously shown no signs of behavioral issues, aside from a past incident involving harassment with peers.
