Swedish App Revolutionizes Household Chores Management

A new app developed by Swedish engineering students aims to streamline household chores for families, promoting organization and accountability among family members. The app, which has garnered around 2,000 users since its launch in early September, allows families to distribute tasks clearly and track their completion. Users can input chores into the app, and other family members can monitor progress and send reminders if tasks are not completed on time.

The app's inception was inspired by a common family dynamic; Victor Fredriksson, one of the creators, developed the idea after his father expressed frustration over constantly reminding him to tidy up. “Why don’t you make an app about this so I don’t have to bother you all the time?” his father suggested. This sparked a collaboration with his colleague Markus Balman, leading to the creation of the app.

Addressing Gender Inequality in Housework

The app not only seeks to enhance family harmony by turning chores into a reward system but also aims to address the gender disparity in household responsibilities. According to a recent study by the United Nations Women's Agency, women globally spend an average of 2.8 hours more per day than men on unpaid domestic work. By making household contributions visible, the app encourages discussions about chores and promotes shared responsibility.

Users like Marco and Neha Sarcevic, who live in Täby, Sweden, have found the app beneficial in managing their household tasks while raising their two young sons. They plan to involve their children in the app's system as they grow older, teaching them the value of contributing to household responsibilities. Neha expressed that the app helps her manage chores more efficiently, providing peace of mind as a mother.
