Escalating Clashes in Sudan: Army Bombs Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum and Darfur
On October 1, 2024, the Sudanese army intensified its military operations against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) amid escalating clashes in Khartoum and the Darfur region. Reports indicate that the army conducted successive bombings targeting RSF positions in the East Nile area, located east of the capital, Khartoum. Local sources described the scene as chaotic, with loud explosions and the sounds of medium and light weapon fire echoing across neighborhoods close to the army's armored corps.
In West Darfur, significant battles erupted near Al-Geneina, the state capital, marking a pivotal moment as armed struggle movements allied with the Sudanese army engaged the RSF. This confrontation is particularly notable as it is the first major clash since the RSF took control of the region in November 2023. Ahmed Hussein Mustafa, the official spokesman for the joint forces, reported that they successfully intercepted a convoy of 70 RSF combat vehicles heading towards Kulbus locality, resulting in heavy losses for the RSF in both personnel and equipment.
Clashes have also been reported in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, where the army, joint forces, and popular resistance groups continue to confront the RSF. The situation escalated further as warplanes were deployed to bomb RSF positions in the eastern part of the city. The joint forces claimed to have repelled an RSF advance that occurred on Monday evening, inflicting substantial losses on the RSF and forcing them to retreat from El Fasher.
