The Sudanese army has announced its control over the Al-Zurq base in North Darfur, a significant military installation previously held by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This development follows a military operation that began on Saturday, resulting in the joint forces capturing multiple military bases and airports associated with the RSF. According to Ahmed Mustafa, spokesperson for the Joint Force of Armed Struggle Movements, the operation led to the deaths and injuries of approximately 700 RSF personnel, alongside the destruction of over 122 military vehicles.
The Al-Zurq base, located near the borders of Sudan, Chad, and Libya, has been described as a critical logistical hub for the RSF. Moatasem Saleh, political secretary of the Justice and Equality Movement, emphasized the strategic importance of this base in supplying rebel forces. Meanwhile, the RSF has countered these claims, asserting that they have regained control of the area and accused the joint forces of ethnic cleansing against civilians, including the destruction of essential resources and infrastructure.
