Major Security Breach at JFK Airport
A significant security breach occurred at New York's JFK International Airport when a stowaway managed to board a Delta Air Lines flight to Paris without a boarding pass or any identification. The incident took place on Tuesday night, coinciding with the busy Thanksgiving travel period, raising serious concerns about airport security protocols.
According to the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the woman successfully bypassed multiple security checkpoints, including two identity checks and the final boarding checkpoint. Delta Airlines confirmed the incident, stating that the individual was not carrying any prohibited items. However, the exact circumstances that allowed her to evade security remain unclear, and the airline has declined to provide further details as the investigation is ongoing.
Passenger Experience and Response
The stowaway was discovered by a flight attendant who grew suspicious of her frequent trips to the restroom. Reports indicate that she was found in the cabin over six hours into the flight, approximately 1.5 hours before landing in Paris. Passengers were not informed of the situation until the plane had landed, at which point they were instructed to remain seated as French police boarded to address the security issue.
Rob Jackson, a passenger on Delta Flight 264, recounted that the first announcement regarding a problem came only after the plane had arrived at the gate. He noted that the flight was full, with no empty seats available for the stowaway. Jackson recorded a video in which the captain informed passengers that they were waiting for police to resolve the issue of the extra passenger on board.
Delta Airlines' Commitment to Safety
In light of this incident, Delta Airlines emphasized its commitment to safety and security. A spokesperson stated, “Nothing is more important than safety concerns,” and confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway. The airline is collaborating with aviation stakeholders and law enforcement to understand how such a breach could occur, especially during a peak travel season. The FBI and authorities at Charles de Gaulle Airport have also been contacted regarding the incident.
