New Airline Launches Domestic Route in Germany
A new airline, Flydba, is set to commence operations on January 17, 2024, connecting Stuttgart with Münster/Osnabrück Airport in North Rhine-Westphalia. The airline aims to cater specifically to business travelers, offering a single flight every Friday. The service will utilize a small Diamond DA62 aircraft, accommodating five passengers, and is designed to meet the needs of companies in Stuttgart looking to send employees to the Münster region.
The flight schedule includes a morning departure from Stuttgart and an evening return from Greven, making it a convenient option for corporate travel. Martin Michael, the airline's founder, emphasizes the demand for such services, noting the decline of regional air traffic in Germany post-COVID-19. However, the airline's focus on business clients has raised concerns about its relevance to local travelers, as the flight times are tailored primarily for Stuttgart-based companies.
Violence Escalates at Haiti's Main Airport
In a troubling development, two American commercial flights were shot at while operating at Port-au-Prince International Airport in Haiti. A JetBlue flight was targeted just before takeoff for New York, while a Spirit Airlines plane was struck during its approach from Fort Lauderdale, resulting in injuries to a crew member. In response to the escalating violence, both airlines have suspended flights to Haiti until December 2, 2024.
The violence in Haiti has intensified, particularly around the airport, which has been a focal point for gang activity. The situation has led to the closure of the airport to commercial traffic in the past and has prompted a travel advisory from Spirit Airlines. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for unity among Haiti's political factions to address the ongoing crisis, as the country faces significant security challenges.
