Wizz Air announces its entry into the long-haul flight market with budget-friendly options to Jeddah, starting at €160. Discover the airline's plans for low-cost travel and what passengers can expect.

Wizz Air Launches Low-Cost Long-Haul Flights to Jeddah

Wizz Air, previously labeled 'Europe's worst airline', is making a bold move into the long-haul flight market. Starting in March 2025, the budget airline will offer one-way flights from London to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for as low as €160. This price point is significantly cheaper than traditional airline fares, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers. Despite the low cost, passengers should be prepared for a no-frills experience, as Wizz Air plans to maintain its reputation for minimal in-flight services. The airline's CEO, Jozsef Varadi, reassures potential customers that the experience will be satisfactory, even if it requires some endurance during the long journey.

Expansion Plans and Fleet Upgrades

In addition to the London to Jeddah route, Wizz Air will also introduce flights from Milan to Abu Dhabi in June 2025. This expansion coincides with the airline's acquisition of a new fleet of Airbus aircraft, which enables longer flight durations of up to 8 hours. Varadi mentioned that the design of the seats will remain the same as on short-haul flights, emphasizing a consistent low-cost travel experience. The airline has faced criticism for its punctuality and overall service, which it aims to improve as it enters this new market segment. The move to long-haul flights signifies Wizz Air's commitment to diversifying its offerings and enhancing its brand image.

Budget Travel in the Long-Haul Market

Wizz Air's entry into the long-haul market is a strategic attempt to cater to the increasing demand for affordable travel options. With ticket prices at half the cost of traditional airlines, it is expected that many travelers will opt for this budget-friendly alternative. However, potential customers should be aware that the airline does not offer additional privileges or services, which may affect their overall travel experience. As the airline looks to expand its routes further, it remains focused on providing low-cost options for those willing to sacrifice comfort for savings. The success of these flights may determine the future direction of Wizz Air in the competitive aviation industry.
