Strengthened Tax Evasion Controls in Italy
In 2024, the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (Mef) reported a significant increase in efforts to combat tax evasion, with the Guardia di Finanza intensifying its control activities. From June to October, the number of checks on taxpayers surged by 33%, focusing on individuals and businesses with high tax risk indicators. This targeted approach has resulted in the identification of an additional €1.2 billion in taxes owed, attributed to serious irregularities uncovered during investigations. The Mef noted that 2.7 million taxpayers submitted the ISA form this year, marking a 20% increase over the past four years. The deadline for joining the two-year preventive agreement is December 12.
Tax Revenue Recovery in Argentina
In Argentina, tax collections rebounded in November, ending a five-month decline with a 4.3% increase in real terms compared to the same month last year. This recovery was driven by higher revenues from the fuel tax, export duties, and Social Security contributions. Total resources reached $13 trillion, reflecting a 178.4% increase in nominal terms, although inflation during this period was estimated at 167%. Notably, the fuel tax saw a 174% increase, while the Income Tax rose by 7.5% due to timely payments from companies and individuals. However, the personal property tax faced a significant decline of 48.6%. Despite the positive trend in November, year-to-date tax revenues are still down 6% in real terms, highlighting ongoing fiscal challenges for the country.
