Providing adequate housing for citizens is one of the top development priorities in Rwanda, one of Africa's most densely populated countries, many of whom live in areas at high risk of flooding and landslides due to the country's geography.
The Rwandan government has launched multiple initiatives aimed at improving living standards, including the 'Rural Settlement' initiative and the 'Model Villages for Displaced Persons' project, both of which aim to provide safe housing and community development.
Despite challenges in adaptation and community integration, these model villages represent a significant step towards urbanization and economic transformation as outlined in the nation's Vision 2050.
